While making an appearance on The New York Times’ ‘Popcast‘ podcast last week, Julia Fox, 34, talked about her life and career before, with, and after her relationship with Kanye West, 47. The former couple was first spotted on a date in Miami, Florida in early January 2022.

At the time, the ‘Uncut Gems‘ actress told Interview Magazine that she met Ye on New Year’s Eve in Miami, noting, “It was an instant connection. his energy is so fun to be around. He had me and my friends laughing, dancing, and smiling all night.”

The Italian-American actress and model continued to reveal, “We decided to keep the energy going and fly back to New York City to see ‘Slave Play.’ Ye’s flight landed at six and the play was at seven and he was there on time. I was impressed. After the play, we chose to do dinner at Carbone, which is one of my favorite restaurants. Obviously.”

At the restaurant, Fox said Ye took over and directed an entire photo shoot in front of the other customers. Fox said everyone “loved” the stunt and “cheered us on while it was happening.” The fun continued as Ye also took Fox to a hotel and presented her with some gifts. She said, “I mean, I’m still in shock. Ye had an entire hotel suite full of clothes. It was every girl’s dream come true. It felt like a real Cinderella moment. I don’t know how he did it, or how he got all of it there in time. But I was so surprised. Like, who does things like this on a second date? Or any date!”

Fox continued to say that her time with Ye had thus been “so organic,” adding, “I don’t know where things are headed but if this is any indication of the future I’m loving the ride.” However, the couple’s whirlwind romance ended the following month.

Reflecting on her relationship with Kanye West, Julia Fox told ‘Popcast’ hosts Joe Coscarelli and Jon Caramanica, “It was actually a blessing that he came into my life because he kind of shook up my team in a way where a lot of the creative control was then given back to me.”

She added, “Even though nothing was really going on because it was the pandemic and whatever, but I would still feel this pressure to pretend to be this Hollywood starlet that I wasn’t. I’d get into fights about it and be really upset about it, but then ultimately always concede and just do what they wanted me to do because it was easier than arguing. So after he came in and was like, ‘Wait a minute. No, f**k that.’ Like, ‘I’m going to do what he said. I’m going to do what I want to do.’ But then when he left, it was like, ‘Oh wait, now I’m going to do what I want to do,’ you know?”

Despite calling Kanye West her “blessing” for helping her obtain creative control, Julia Fox clarified, “I’m my own muse. In the same way, I’m my own muse I’m also my own downfall, and ’cause really, ultimately, I can only do what I believe I can do. So, when I don’t believe in myself I can’t do anything and I’m debilitated. So, it’s both ways, you know? After that, the doors had unlocked and I just had so many more resources at my fingers, more people wanting to work with me, more designers willing to lend me clothes, and then it just became really fun.”

In addition to clarifying the muse conversation and calling Kanye West her “blessing,” Julia Fox also clarified that she had her own success and unique fashion sense before dating him, stating, “I started to hear this whole thing like, ‘Oh, well she’s only killing it in the fashion because it’s Kanye.’ And I was like ‘No, these are my looks. I’m putting them together.’ Then I felt like that was what I needed to push against and prove that, ‘No, these are my looks,’ you know? … I wasn’t doing it before because my team wanted me to just look basic.”

She later said that she rejected the vision that her team had planned out for her following her role in ‘Uncut Gems,’ claiming, “It felt inauthentic.” She added, “It didn’t feel fun and I don’t want to do anything that isn’t fun. I’d rather pack it up and just leave and go do something else.”
