3-Year-Old Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself At His Birthday Party With Family Member’s Gun

After finding a family member’s gun, a 3-year-old boy in Porter, Texas has died after accidentally shooting himself in the chest at his birthday party.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 24) around 4:15 p.m. at his residence on the 23000 block of Owens Road. As family and friends gathered to celebrate the child’s birthday, during a game of cards everyone head a gunshot, and found the toddler with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The child was immediately rushed to a nearby fire station, where he was pronounced dead, having succumbed to his injuries. Investigating deputies believe the toddler found the pistol after it fell from a family member’s pocket. Authorities have continued to investigate, especially with how the family member lost their firearm, and whether the gun owner acted in an improper or irresponsible manner when it came to safely securing the weapon.
