A Texas teen who was babysitting her nephew accidentally shot him while taking a selfie with a gun.

ABC News reports 19-year-old Caitlin Smith was arrested after she accidentally shot her 10-year-old nephew while attempting to take a selfie with a gun. Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Thomas Gillard said in a statement that the boy is currently in stable condition. He said the shooting took place on Tuesday while Smith was babysitting the boy at a home and started to record herself holding the gun.

However, the shooting occurred when her finger allegedly landed on the trigger and fired the gun, shooting the boy in his stomach. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed the teen’s recount of events in a press conference:

“The female indicated that she retrieved that weapon to take a picture, and in the course of taking pictures, the gun went off and struck the child.”

Gillard said deputies did not initially charge Smith until they had a better idea of the boy’s condition. She was charged on Wednesday with serious bodily injury to a child and Gillard stated the charge is a second-degree felony.
