TMZ reports that a California man called Cory Mcjimson was waiting for the arrival of a12-week-old Yorkshire Terrier named Sebastian from a breeder near Ohio. Sebastian would be a special present for Cory’s 5-year-old daughter and cost around $3,000.

Sebastian was set to fly with Delta Air Lines from Ohio to LAX, with a layover in Atlanta on Thursday night. Corey believes that the dog was transported in a pressurized cargo hold during both flights, which is what may have led to the death.

Cory reports that he went with his family at 6:30 PM, but found the puppy lifeless in its carry crate. They quickly alerted Delta, who took the dog to an animal hospital where they administered CPR, but he couldn’t be revived. Sebastian was pronounced dead at 9 PM.

Delta said they would be doing a necropsy of the animal and released a statement.

“Pets are an important member of the family and we are focused on the well-being of all animals we transport. We extend our deepest condolences to Sebastian’s family and are conducting a thorough review of the situation to understand what happened.”

Sebastian marks the latest in a string of dog deaths on airplanes. Most notably a french bulldog died after cabin crew instructed he be put in an overhead cabin.
