Wow: Tyrese Gibson Gets Emotional While Opening Up About Dealing With Grief: “I’m Doing The best I Can With Every 24 Hoirs I Get”
Tyrese Gibson has made a great effort to maintain a brave demeanor in the face of immense personal challenges. However, the singer and actor is candidly sharing just how difficult it has been for him to cope with grief.
During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Tyrese reflected on the tumultuous past few years, marked by the losses of his Fast and Furious co-star Paul Walker, acclaimed director John Singleton, and his own mother and sisters. Additionally, he has navigated the emotional turmoil of his divorce and the estrangement from friends following a public mental health breakdown. When asked whether he has genuinely taken the time to process all that he has endured, Tyrese struggled to hold back tears before responding.
“I’m doing the best that I can with every 24 hours that I get,” he expressed. “Black men cry,” he added, choosing to refuse tissues in that vulnerable moment. He reiterated, “Every 24 hours I get, I’m doing the best that I can.” Tyrese continued to elaborate on the feelings he has been suppressing, revealing the heavy weight of his experiences and the journey he was enduring.

While the death of Tyrese’s family members was and still is extremely hard for him to deal with, the entertainer has previously shared that it has been just as difficult to cope right with the loss of his longtime co-star Paul Walker who died in November 2013 following a car accident.
Tyrese said in a past interview while promoting a Fast and Furious film, “Paul Walker’s untimely death was… the trauma of losing him, superseded all of the fun and magic that we were experiencing before.” Singleton’s death also rocked him hard as he previously credited him for his success. “There would not be a such thing as a Fast and Furious, Four Brothers, Waist Deep, Baby Boy, Transformers. All of the movies that I’ve been able to do [would] be no such thing if John Singleton didn’t see something in me that I didn’t see in myself.”
In 2017, supporters unexpectedly saw an emotional Tyrese publicly break as he vented about the legal battle over his daughter, the issues he has with Hollywood and more. To add to his problems, Tyrese and Samantha Lee Gibson went through a nasty divorce which ended in 2020. Prior to that he was married to Norma Mitchell from 2007 until 2009 and is still dealing with legal issues.
Despite all of that, Tyrese has been taking it one day at a time, slowly trying to regain his happiness with his new girlfriend Zelie Timothy. He also recently released a new album titled, “Beautiful Pain,” which he is currently promoting.
