The woman who pled guilty to throwing her children off the Sellwood Bridge in 2009 was recently found dead in her cell in a Wilsonville prison.

The Oregon Department of Corrections says that Amanda Stott-Smith died yesterday at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. Stott-Smith pled guilty to one count of aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder in 2009 after she threw her two children off the Sellwood Bridge. 4-year-old Eldon Smith died in the fall from a 75-foot fall on May 23, 2009.

Trinity Smith, 7 years old at the time, survived the fall and was rescued after two people heard her screams. In April 2010, Stott-Smith was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 35 years.

At her sentencing, Stott-Smith apologized saying “I would like to say to all those here today, and especially to my children, I’m deeply sorry.”

Cheryl Robb and Dave Haag were the couple who pulled Trinity and Eldon out of the Willamette River in 2009. They heard Trinity’s screams for help and went out in their boat.

All in-custody deaths are investigated by the Oregon State Police. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
