Woman Who Ran Over Teen For Being “Mexican” Ruled Incompetent To Stand Trial

The Iowa woman who is responsible for multiple hate crimes along with running over a teen because she thought the girl was “Mexican” is ruled incompetent to stand trial.

According to ABC 11, A judge ruled on Tuesday that Nicole Poole,42, is incompetent to stand trial based on a “preponderance of the evidence, that the defendant is suffering from a mental disorder.” The judge stated that Poole is unable to truly understand her charges and act accordingly in regards to her defense. She also goes by the name Nicole Franklin.

All case proceedings have been suspended and the judge has ordered for Poole to recieve state treatment in order to have her fully aware in order to stand trial. Her hearing is scheduled for April 21.

Back in December, a judge ordered for Poole to be evaluated after her attorney reported that she appeared mentally incompetent. The defense did not recieve any opposition from prosecutors after they made a slight observation.

Poole is facing charges for driving her SUV onto a sidewalk and hitting 14-year-old Natalia Miranda in Des Moines. She also conducted the same act to hit a 12-year-old black boy. Thankfully, both children survived. After the attacks, Poole entered a store to yell racial slurs at a store clerk and several customers.
