A Michigan woman traveled first class with her emotional support miniature horse, Fred, much to the shock of her fellow airline passengers.

According to the New York Post, Ronica Froese started their traveling journey on Feb.7 to California. She said she paid a lot of money for her first class seats but she wanted to male the trip comfortable for Fred:

“I paid an arm and a leg for tickets, but I did so because it was Fred’s first time and I wanted him to be comfortable. I wanted him to have the most room.”

However Froese may have to leave Fred behind due to the United States Transportation Department tightening restrictions on therapy animals by only allowing dogs on flights:

“It’s a very abused process — there are a lot of untrained service animals on the plane that are not trained. It’s definitely an abused system, but the sad part is what the DOT is looking at doing, they are looking at excluding me as a handler from taking my horse on the plane,”

The announcement was made last month after various passengers attempted to bring in different types of emotional support animals:

“Airlines have … expressed concern that the significant increase in the number of service animals traveling on aircraft may be the result of an increase in emotional support animals and/or passengers falsely claiming that their pets are emotional support animals.”
