WHO Warns Drinking Alcohol May Increase Risk Of Catching Coronavirus
While wine and spirits sales have drastically risen nationwide amid the coronavirus pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) is now warning that drinking alcohol may increase your risk of contracting the novel virus.
In addition to already knowing that alcohol consumption weakens the body’s immune system, WHO also warns that drinkers are also at risk for the other risky behavior while under the influence.

In a reported published by the organization’s regional office in Europe, it reads, “Alcohol consumption is associated with a range of communicable and noncommunicable diseases and mental health disorders, which can make a person more vulnerable to COVID-19. In particular, alcohol compromises the body’s immune system and increases the risk of adverse health outcomes. Therefore, people should minimize their alcohol consumption at any time, and particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The memo also debunks myths that claimed drinking high-strength varieties of alcohol can kill the virus. The simply reads, “It does not.”
