Karol G wants GQ Magazine to put some respect on her natural beauty!

This week the Colombian singer took to Instagram to call out the mag for the cover of its GQ Mexico April/May 2023 issue, on which she stars. Now, in the cover photo, she is seen wearing a green minidress with her signature red hair. So what was the problem? Well, she believes they misrepresented her as she wasn’t too happy with how they allegedly edited her face and body.

“Today my GQ magazine cover was made public, a cover with an image that DOES NOT represent me,” she captioned the post. “My face does not look like this, my body does not look like that and I feel very happy and comfortable with how I look naturally.” Although she said she was thankful for the opportunity, she was ultimately disappointed that her concerns about the photo edits were, not taken into consideration. “Despite making clear my disagreement with the number of editions they did with the photo, they didn’t do anything about it,” she said, “as if to look good I needed all those changes.”

“I understand the repercussions this can have, but beyond feeling it’s disrespectful to me, it’s disrespectful to women who wake up looking to feel comfortable with themselves despite society’s stereotypes,” she wrote near the end of the post.

Karol G graced the cover of the mag as part of the publication’s first-ever Global Creativity Awards Issue, which highlighted highly collaborative innovators from across music, fashion, film, business, art, and sports.

Previously she spoke about how important it was to always embrace herself. Before embarking on her 2021 Bichota Tour, the singer spoke to PEOPLE about representing Hispanic women and her community.

“As a Latina, I think all the Latinos, we just have something inside that makes us really hard workers,” she said. “We look [for] the opportunity in places that there’s no opportunity.”

She continued at the time, “We are working for our spaces right now. But we are here. And we now have that respect. People know us [and] know our story,” she added. “I’m super happy just to represent that part, to inspire people if I can. That’s the most important thing.”

In 2021, the Latin Grammy winner was also vocal about staying true to herself, especially when it comes to her image.

“Everything is about self-love and confidence, being strong in any situation,” Karol told E! News that year. “I want fans to see that I am a real, normal person like them. I go through big and strong situations in my life too but it all depends on you and your attitude in life.”

GQ has not yet released a statement regarding Karol G’s comments regarding her cover shoot.
