Harris, who will make history as the country’s first female vice president, described the newly-announced team as “experienced, talented, and barrier-shattering.” The two top press aides to Harris will be Symone Sanders and Ashley Etienne. Jen Psaki, who was President Barack Obama’s White House communications director, will be press secretary. Elizabeth Alexander, a senior adviser to the Biden-Harris campaign, will be first lady Jill Biden’s communication director. Karine Jean Pierre, will have the role as deputy press secretary. Pili Tobar, a Biden-Harris campaign director and former deputy director at America’s Voice, a nonprofit that advocated for immigration reform, will be deputy White House communications director. The team will be led by Kate Bedingfield, former deputy campaign communications director for Mr Biden.

This is the first time in history these communications roles will be filled entirely by women. While announcing the great news, Harris said in a statement: “Our country is facing unprecedented challenges — from the coronavirus pandemic to the economic crisis, to the climate crisis, and a long-overdue reckoning over racial injustice. To overcome these challenges, we need to communicate clearly, honestly, and transparently with the American people, and this experienced, talented, and barrier-shattering team will help us do that. These communications professionals express our commitment to building a White House that reflects the very best of our nation.”

President-elect Biden also released a statement saying,

“I am proud to announce today the first senior White House communications team comprised entirely of women. These qualified, experienced communicators bring diverse perspectives to their work and a shared commitment to building this country back better,” Biden said in a statement.
