UPDATE: Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms Says Family Members Have Also Tested Positive For COVID-19
On Monday, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms revealed she tested positive for COVID-19. She shared a Tweet in the evening that read: “COVID-19 has literally hit home. I have had NO symptoms and have tested positive.”

While she didn’t give any further details at the time, she later spoke with CNN’s Chris Cuomo and said that her husband had also tested positive along with one of her four children. She also shared that all of her kids have asthma, a preexisting condition that the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say may worsen Covid-19 symptoms.
Bottoms explained they decided to get tested because her husband had been sleeping more than normal since last Thursday. “This is startling for me because we’ve been so very careful. We’ve taken all of the precautions you can take. We wear mask we wash our hands I have no idea when and where we were exposed,” she said Monday.
Although she is freighted by their COVID results, the mayor said that her diagnosis highlights how contagious the virus is:
“This is scary. We’ve done all the things that we thought we should do, and for us to still test positive, I think, really speaks to how easily this virus is spread and obviously, none of us are immune from it,” she said.
As of July 6, Georgia Department of Public Health reported 97,064 coronavirus cases, 2,878 deaths, and 11,919 hospitalizations.
