UPDATE: Kim Potter, Officer Who Fatally Shot Daunte Wright, Released On $100,000 Bond

Disgraced former police officer Kim Potter was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with 2nd-degree manslaughter for the death of Daunte Wright.

Initially, she was held without bond but it’s being reported that Potter, a 26-year veteran of the force, posted bond and was released from the Hennepin County jail Wednesday evening. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday. As we previously reported, the charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison under Minnesota law.

Police claimed the shooting of Wright was accidental, with Potter mistaking her gun for a Taser. However, Imran Ali, the assistant criminal division chief in the Washington County Attorney’s office said in a statement: “Officer Potter abrogated her responsibility to protect the public when she used her firearm rather than her Taser. Her action caused the unlawful killing of Mr. Wright and she must be held accountable.”

Potter had initially resigned on Tuesday following protests, some later turning into riots. The Minneapolis region is already under tight security and tensions are high as a trial continues for former Minneapolis police officer Derek.
