In the wake of a devastating loss, NBA player Tristan Thompson has been granted temporary custody of his younger brother. The sudden and tragic passing of their mother Andrea Thompson, has left the family reeling, but Thompson’s commitment to his family shines through as he steps up to care for his sibling during this difficult time.
Thompson’s dedication to his role as a guardian is commendable. As a professional athlete, he is no stranger to juggling responsibilities and maintaining composure under pressure. Now, he faces the challenge of providing stability and support for his brother in the midst of their shared grief.
As we previously reported, the 32-year-old basketball player filed the documents for guardianship earlier this month. In his filing, Thompson noted that he is the closest living family member for his sibling, who struggles with epilepsy and other medical conditions. It was also said that their father Trevor Thompson has been absent from Amari’s life since 2014, according to PEOPLE.
“Amari is a minor and has medical conditions that render him unable to take care of himself or seek gainful employment,” the documents reportedly stated. Appointing a guardian for Amari would be in his best interest because it would ensure that someone would be responsible for providing and fulfilling his basic needs,” Thompson’s statement continued. “Further, Amari is set to receive a modest inheritance from his recently deceased mother and a guardian wouldn’t be able to manage and invest in Mary’s inheritance on his behalf.”
Amari, who has been given $103,475 from his mother’s estate, currently lives with his big brother, Tristan Thompson in Hidden Hills, California.
