In a new interview with reality star-turned podcaster NeNe Leakes, Miami rap legend Trick Daddy continues to double down on his controversial claim that Beyoncé “can’t sing.”
Back in June 2021, the “Take It to Da House” rapper was caught in a Clubhouse chatroom, going in on Queen Bey and her husband, New York rap legend JAY-Z. Throughout the conversation, Trick claimed Bey wasn’t trying to get back to doing music and that she doesn’t write her own songs. He then stated that he didn’t understand why people think Bey can sing. He said his godmother trained her all her career.
Trick then pivoted to Bey’s hubby Hov and said he’s “never won the Greatest Rapper Alive” title and never will. Trick said Hov was used to replace the Notorious B.I.G. He also said DMX was selling more records than JAY-Z and that after changing his name multiple times, Hov went on to buy his songs to get put on.

Trick Daddy Doubles Down After Claiming Beyoncé ‘Can’t Sing’ And JAY-Z ‘Never Won Greatest Rapper Alive’ Title
Following his controversial comments, the comment sections under all of Trick’s posts on Instagram were in shambles as Beyoncé’s BeyHive fanbase flooded him with bee emojis and reminded him how talented she is.
Despite the backlash, Trick stood by his comments about Hov and Bey. One day later, he took to his then-radio show on Miami’s 99Jamz and explained that he didn’t feel like he said anything wrong or disrespectful. Trick insisted he was only sharing an “unpopular opinion.”
Trick Daddy told his radio show listeners:
“What I said was I don’t think Beyoncé can sing and Beyoncé is to R&B what JAY-Z is to the state of Hip-Hop in New York at the time when JAY-Z considered himself as the King of Hip-Hop; which is my opinion. And opinions are like buttholes: without ’em, you’d be full of doo-doo. That’s my opinion.
I’ve said many times on the radio that they’re wonderful businesspeople. Jigga made a lot of money, he got a whole lotta money. But did I say anything disrespectful? No. Did I call them out they names? No, I didn’t.
But before I said that, because a lot of females love Beyoncé, I said she’s the lady Jesus Christ to them, which is not a bad thing. Actually, that’s a compliment ’cause Jesus Christ was a powerful and lovable person. But if you got a problem with speaking your own mind, I apologize.”
A day after that, Trick Daddy made headlines again for reacting to the Beyoncé and BeyHive backlash. In an interview with Marc Lamont Hill, Trick Daddy said, “Good support man… good sh*t y’all doing. But I grew up with roaches. I’m more afraid of roaches than bees.”
Trick Daddy Stands By Controversial 4-Year-Old Claim That ‘Beyoncé Can’t Sing’
Four years later, Trick Daddy is again addressing his comments claiming Beyoncé “can’t sing.” During the July 30 episode of NeNe Leakes’ self-titled show, she asked Trick Daddy why his radio show with fellow Miami rap legend Trina ended. She wondered if it was because of his comments about Bey and Hov. He explained:
“No, the pandemic. And no, I said something about Beyoncé and it wasn’t like that. Because I love Beyoncé and she’s very talented. I don’t know if there’s anybody else that can entertain and perform the way that she does. But, I was speaking on Clubhouse to this n***a out of LA named Wack 100. What he does is, he talks a lot of police sh*t. And he looks for content. He took what I said and edited it. ‘Beyoncé can’t sing,’ and that’s all they heard. The BeyHive was on my a**.
But, me, I know I didn’t mean that. So, I didn’t care. But, in my defense, I don’t consider Beyoncé a vocalist. I know what a vocalist is. I’m a Whitney Houston fan. My godmomma is the late, great Betty Wright. I know Mariah Carey has a voice. I know Anita Baker and Stephanie Mils have a voice. I know a lot of these young girls can’t sing like Shirley Murdock. That’s what I meant. There’s a difference between singing and sanging. If you can’t go to the church and make an old lady fall out and knock off her wig, you can’t sing to me.”
NeNe continued to ask Trick if his comments about Beyoncé played a role at all in his and Trina’s show cancellation. He said:
“Nah. No. We went on years after that. What it was was that Cox Media was purchased by some ‘lil young billionaires who don’t know nothing about the game. The pandemic came. Nobody was listening to the radio. Everybody was home. All these social media platforms started opening up. The radio was less and less. And at that time, we were still number one, they was rating us. We started off at five and ended up at number one. And now, they probably ain’t even Top 20.
I love radio. I want to work in Atlanta radio. ‘Cause I know Atlanta radio got a lot—they give you a lot of freedom. I met Ludacris, when he was ‘Chris Lover Lover.’ And Greg Street was one of my biggest supporters and helped break my music in Atlanta. I love Atlanta radio. ‘Cause what they do is play their local music. We don’t do that here. We’re like a big [p***?]. Everybody get some of us down here.
Yeah, I’d do a podcast. But, I would have to do a podcast with a company that’s already established. I don’t want to do a podcast that I gotta create and build a fanbase. [I would do] something that’s already created. And I’m open to talk about anything they want to talk about, ’cause I don’t give not one f**k about nobody’s feelings no more.”
