A week ago, we learned the fate of Toronto rapper Tory Lanez, 31, as he was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the 2020 shooting of Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion, 28. It is now reported that he’s being isolated from general population while sitting inside the LA County Jail. He’s also only being given 3 hours a week for recreation.
Last Tuesday (August 8), Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, was handed down a 10-year prison sentence, three years less than what prosecutors were initially looking for. Lanez’s lawyer Jose Baez confirmed after the sentencing that he would be planning to file an appeal.
At the time, Baez said, “We’re disappointed that Tory did not get the sentence that we certainly hoped for. I think the sentence handed down was incredibly harsh. I have seen cases like vehicular homicide and other cases where there’s death and the person still gets less than 10 years and in this case to get a 10 year sentence is extreme. This is really just another example of someone being punished for their celebrity status and some being utilized to send an example.”
He continued, “He’s not an example he’s a human being and I think it’s incredible unfortunate and something that we plan on appealing. I’m incredibly disappointed that the district attorney office didn’t step up and put their money where their mouth was in this case, but hey that’s certainly within their discretion and that’s why you have two sides to the argument.”
According to TMZ, while Lanez sits inside of the Los Angeles County Jail, he is being kept isolated from general population and being given just a few hours a day outside of his cell, weekly.
Per the site’s law enforcement sources, the “Say It” singer is being kept in “the administrative segregation unit” and being checked on every 30 minutes. It is said that this unit is meant for inmates who can’t be safely housed with the rest of the inmates in general pop.

In addition to being kept isolated, Lanez is only being permitted to be outside of his cell for 2 hours a day. The remaining hours have him by himself in his cell. Additionally, as for any time outside, getting fresh air during recreation time, Lanez is only allowed 3 hours per week.
Per the site, this type of treatment is quite usual for celebrity inmates like him, who are waiting to be transported out of the LA County Jail and into prison; where Lanez will serve the remainder of this decade-sentence. Reportedly, the rapper will be making the move within the next month.
