Tory Lanez’s lawyer Jose Baez says they plan to file an appeal after the rapper was sentenced to ten years in prison for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
After the sentencing Baez spoke with reporters and shared a few words about the verdict. “We’re disappointed that Tory did not get the sentence that we certainly hoped for. I think the sentence handed down was incredibly harsh. I have seen cases like vehicular homicide and other cases where there’s death and the person still gets less than 10 years and in this case to get a 10 year sentence is extreme. This is really just another example of someone being punished for their celebrity status and some being utilized to send an example,” he shared.

He continued, “he’s not an example he’s a human being and I think it’s incredible unfortunate and something that we plan on appealing. I’m incredibly disappointed that the district attorney office didn’t step up and put their money where their mouth was in this case, but hey that’s certainly within their discretion and that’s why you have two sides to the argument.”
As we previously shared, Tory Lanez has been in a lot of headlines since yesterday because he was finally sentenced for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Prosecutors were looking to give him 13 years, but the judge decided that he will be serving 10. In the state of California, he has to at least serve 85% of the time so people are expecting that the 31-year-old rapper will be released in about 8 years.
While social media is still debating if the time he was hit with was excessive or not, Megan Thee Stallion hasn’t addressed his 10 year sentence publicly, but during court she did provide a statement to the judge that was read out loud.

“I’ve not experienced a single day of peace,” she wrote. She added, “He lied to anyone that would listen.” The letter continued to read of her saying, mercy is for people who show remorse and Tory Lanez has shown none. Her statement continued saying, “he not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma. He tried to position himself as a victim and set out to destroy my character and my soul. He lied to anyone that would listen and paid bloggers to disseminate false information about the case on social media. He released music videos to damage my character and continue his crusade. At first he tried to deny the shooting ever happened. Then, he attempted to place blame on my former best friend. In his tantrum of lies, he’s blamed the system, blamed the press and, as of late, he’s using his childhood trauma to shield himself and avoid culpability.”
