Top Vaccine Scientist Ousted After Questioning Coronavirus Drug Touted By Trump

Top vaccine scientist Rick Bright has been ousted after questioning and showing concern over the coronavirus drug touted by President Donald Trump. Now, he’s filed a whistleblower complaint.

Bright, the former director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, filed his complaint on Tuesday (May 5), alleging that he was demoted over his resistance to allow the widespread use of hydroxychloroquine; the malaria drug boasted by Trump, which officials “demanded that New York and New Jersey be ‘flooded’ with, [and] which were imported from factories in Pakistan and India that had not been inspected by the FDA.”

In addition to speaking out against the drug, he also claims that the Trump administration rejected his COVID-19 warnings, and that he “encountered resistance from HHS leadership, including Health and Human Services Secretary (Alex) Azar, who appeared intent on downplaying this catastrophic event.”

Bright states, “I believe this transfer was in response to my insistence that the government invest the billions of dollars allocated by Congress to address the Covid-19 pandemic into safe and scientifically vetted solutions, and not in drugs, vaccines and other technologies that lack scientific merit. I am speaking out because to combat this deadly virus, science — not politics or cronyism — has to lead the way.”
