According to the New York Post, Trump’s announcement has caused a good portion of TikTok’s 800 million users to migrate over to the American-based app, Byte. Byte was created by the co-founder of Vine, Dom Hofmann, after the app was acquired by Twitter in 2012 but closed in 2017. A lot of TikTok users, specifically influencers and content creators, are nervous about the uncertainty of the app’s future due to the president’s imminent threat.

Other TikTokers say they have no issues using Byte and said the two apps are similar to each other except TikTok has more of a significant impact on social media.

One user, Jake La Fronz, told the Post that they were more comfortable using Byte after discovering it was made by Hofmann.

“I heard that Byte was released by the creator of the Vine and I used to love Vine so I downloaded it and created an account right away,. I figured it had the chance to be as big or bigger than TikTok.”
