A federal judge has released a purported suicide note written by Jeffrey Epstein before his death in 2019. According to The New York Times, the letter was sealed for years as part of the criminal case of his cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione.

Jeffrey Epstein’s Jail Issues With Cellmate Nicholas Tartaglione

Tartaglione has maintained innocence in his own case and has been appealing his 2023 conviction as he serves four life sentences. Regarding the alleged note, Epstein’s cellie said he found it in July 2019. This was after the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender was found unresponsive. Jail officials found him with a strip of cloth wrapped around his neck.

In that incident, Epstein survived. However, he was found dead at 66 weeks later inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MDC) in Lower Manhattan. The Federal Bureau of Prisons ended up shutting down the aging facility in 2021 in order to improve conditions.

In the July incident, Epstein said he was not suicidal and alleged Tartaglione attacked him. However, Tartaglione has long denied assaulting Epstein — who later told jail officials he “never had any issues” with his cellie. As for the note, Tartaglione said he found it inside a graphic novel and gave it to his lawyers, believing it could help him if Epstein continued to accuse his cellie of trying to hurt him.

Federal Judge Releases Purported Jeffrey Epstein Suicide Note, Found By His Cellmate

On Wednesday (May 6), White Plains, New York Federal District Judge Kenneth M. Karas unsealed the one-page note in response to a legal petition the NY Times filed last Thursday (April 30). The letter includes five sentences on lined paper. It read:

“They investigated me for month — FOUND NOTHING!!! So 10 year old charges resubmitted! It is a treat to be able to choose one’s time to say goodbye. Watcha want me to do — Bust out cryin!! NO FUN — NOT WORTH IT!!”

The Times reports it “has not authenticated that Epstein wrote” the note. However, it includes sayings found in the Epstein files (emails) released by the Department of Justice. It also mimics phrases from a separate note reportedly found in Epstein’s cell at the time of his death.

The NY Times also reports, “a spokeswoman from the Justice Department said the agency had never seen” the latest note. However, the Times said a quick search on the DOJ’s Epstein files website reveals otherwise. They claimed to find a cryptic two-page chronology describing how the note was involved in Tartaglione’s legal case. He said, “I opened the book to read and there it was.”

Furthermore, some reports claim the note reads “15/16 year old charges.” However, Epstein was first arrested in July 2006 on prostitution charges. In June 2008, he pleaded guilty and was released from jail in July 2009.
