Kelvin Evans, the man accused of stealing unreleased Beyoncé music, is headed to trial on Monday (May 11) after turning down the state’s final plea deal over a month ago.
Last year, the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer was in Atlanta, Georgia for her ‘Cowboy Carter Tour’ stops from July 10 to July 14. According to 11 Alive, Atlanta Police stated the incident occurred on July 8 inside the Krog Street parking deck.
Police said two people, claiming to be part of Bey’s team, reported the incident. They said someone smashed the back window of their black Jeep Wagoneer and stole two suitcases. The items reported missing included jump drives (hard drives) with unreleased watermarked Beyoncé music, footage plans for the show, past and future set lists, two laptops, designer sunglasses, and Apple AirPods Max headphones.
In August 2025, Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, spoke out about the incident. He appeared on ’The Don Lemon Show,’ and questioned why the choreographer had Bey’s material. He fired off:
“I don’t know anything other than what I’ve heard in the news. But, I can tell you, Don, that choreographer had better be glad I’m not still managing her, because he would be in a lot of hot water. First of all, why did he have a hard drive with all her music? He’s a choreographer. And if he did have it, why didn’t he secure it? You never ever would leave anything like that in a car. So, that’s troublesome to me.
What it means in this case is Beyoncé will have to make a decision if she’s gonna release now. She was working on another project, and now she might have to release it sooner than she had anticipated… This should never ever happen. Let’s start there.”
Man Accused Of Stealing Unreleased Beyoncé Music Rejects Plea Deal And Heads To Trial, Facing 6 Years In Prison
In September 2025, Atlanta Police tracked down and arrested Kelvin Evans in connection to the theft of Beyoncé’s unreleased music. They said the stolen items pinged at three locations: one on Hank Aaron Drive, Longreen Terrace, and another on North Avenue in Hapeville. Upon arrest, Evans was booked into the Fulton County Jail and charged with entering an automobile or other motor vehicle with the intent to commit theft or felony, plus criminal trespassing.
On March 25, 2026, Evans appeared in court virtually and rejected a final plea offer from prosecutors. He boldly declared, “I’m ready for trial now.” The deal included five years in prison for the entering automobile charge and twelve months to serve concurrently for the criminal trespassing charge.
The judge set trial for May 11, leaving Evans to face 6 years in prison, due to his priors. On May 7, 2026, Evans appeared in court for a final pre-trial hearing.
