As we shared on Wednesday (August 9), Dr. Tracey St. Julian was named in a lawsuit by Jessica Ross and boyfriend Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr., the parents of the deceased baby. They accused the doctor of decapitating their newborn during delivery on July 9.

In the shocking and heartbreaking case, the parents allege that the doctor and the hospital staff used excessive force and delayed surgical intervention, resulting in this unimaginable tragedy. The parents and their legal team bravely hosted a news conference on Wednesday, where they announced the lawsuit.

According to the complaint, Ross was in labor when the baby’s shoulders got stuck in the vaginal canal. In a desperate attempt to deliver the baby, the doctor allegedly applied excessive force on the baby’s head and neck, resulting in the horrific decapitation.

One of the couple’s lawyers, Dr. Roderick Edmond, said, “When the womb was opened, the feet came out, the body came out, and there was no head. Dr. St. Julian came in, and she, in the process of trying to deliver the baby, pulled on the baby’s head and neck so hard, and manipulated them so hard, that the bones of the baby’s skull, face, and neck were broken.”

Edmond continued, “When they wrapped this baby up tightly, they propped the baby’s head up on top of the blanket to make it appear that the baby’s head was attached, when it wasn’t.”

It was also alleged that the parents had requested a C-section prior to the incident but were denied, potentially indicating a failure in providing appropriate care and consideration for their concerns. The legal suit not only accuses the doctor of gross negligence but also includes claims of fraud and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The Georgia couple claim that the hospital attempted to cover up the incident, and in the aftermath of their child’s unexpected and tragic death, they are now seeking justice and an unspecified amount of punitive damages.

One of the couple’s other attorneys, Cory Lynch, said, “It wasn’t until then that Dr. St. Julian told the family what actually happened. Up to that point, they had encouraged the family to, you know, hey, just have a cremation done. Their dreams and hopes turned into a nightmare. The healthcare providers at Southern Regional Hospital, after the horrific incident told them these things and then tried to hide what actually happened.”

After news broke about the doctor allegedly decapitating a baby during delivery at their hospital, Southern Regional Medical Center, has denied all allegation.

The hospital’s statement wholly read, “Due to patient privacy laws and HIPAA, we are unable to discuss the care and treatment of specific patients. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the family and all those impacted by this tragic event. Our prayers also remain with the dedicated team of physicians, nurses and staff at Southern Regional Medical Center who cared for this patient. While our sympathies go out to the family, Southern Regional Medical Center denies the allegations in the Complaint referencing the hospital. Since this matter is in litigation, we cannot provide additional statements. As far as Dr. St Julian, she is not an employee of the hospital. The hospital has taken the appropriate steps in response to this unfortunate situation.”
