Santos Herrera,22, was driving on the route between the northern cities of Jinotega and San Sebastián de Yalí when the school bus started having mechanical issues, causing him to lose control, authorities said. The bus crashed into a 160-foot-deep slope where it collided with the beehives and the impact broke multiple wooden boxes, allowing the swarm of bees to escape their hive as reported by the Daily Mail.

45 of the 60 passengers, including Herrera, were attacked by bees. Residents rushed to rescue the passenger but the bees presence overpowered the area. Authorities named the fatalities as Eneyda Tórrez, 47, and her daughter, Andrea Carolina Garca, eight years old, who died in the hospital. Kenia Souza, 19, Dilcia Amparo, 32, Santos Calderón, 38, and Reyna Olivas, 84, were also among those killed.

African bees, also known as killer bees, have been making headlines since their introduction into South America in the 1950s. These bees are notorious for their aggressive behavior and the lethal stings they inflict on humans and animals. In Peru, African bees have become a growing problem, as they have expanded their territory and pose a threat to the environment and the local economy.

Peru has been one of the countries most affected by the Africanized bee. The bees were first reported in Peru in the 1980s, and since then, they have established themselves in many areas of the country. The bees have been known to attack people and animals who get too close to their hives, and their aggressive behavior has caused several deaths in Peru. This has led to widespread fear and mistrust of bees in the country, which has had negative effects on the local economy.

In addition to their aggressive behavior, African bees have also had a negative impact on the environment in Peru. The bees are known to outcompete local bees and other pollinators, which can have a devastating effect on plant and animal populations. In some areas, African bees have even caused the extinction of local bee populations, which has had a ripple effect on the ecosystem as a whole.
