The incident occurred on February 21 at a Midvale McDonald’s around 1:30 p.m.

The 12-minute video shows the moments leading up to, during and after the arrest of a 27-year-old man named Sadaat Johnson.

Police say they responded to the McDonald’s when employees reported that a man was brandishing a gun in the Mickey D’s drive-thru after complaining about them getting his order incorrect.

Apparently, Johnson was told by employees to pull his vehicle to the front of the restaurant as they privately called police.

At the time of the incident, Johnson had two young children in the back of his car: a 4-year-old and a 3-year-old.

Upon the arrival of officers from the Unified Police Department, Johnson was issued several commands, demanding he get out of his vehicle, but they say he was not complying.

Subsequently, police opened Johnson’s front driver’s door and pulled him to arrest him.

As officers drag Johnson out of his seat and onto the ground to arrest him, one of the children grab a hold of his gun — which officers noted was inside the car as they pulled him out.

Seconds later, an officer see a gun pointing out of the back window and before a single shot goes off, the officer yells out “gun!”

The officer ended up using his hand to remove the gun from the child, but the gun went off, hitting the upper side of the McDonald’s restaurant building.

The same officer, unaware of who was inside the car shooting, proceeded to yell at the person to drop the gun. The officer then realized that it was a small child behind the weapon.

The two young children began crying at the sound of the gun and officers rushed to their aid, pulling them out of the car and far from the scene.

Body cam footage shows the entire ordeal, with them leading the children inside of the restaurant for safety.

The charging records show that when talked to, the 4-year-old told police that he picked up the gun because “he wanted his daddy back.” The same child also told police that during the altercation, he was scared because his dad told him that “the police officer cannot open the door,” even though they did.

Reports claim that Johnson told police that he “blacked out” for 30 seconds after he and the McDonald’s employee began arguing over the incorrect order. He also denied pulling out a gun in front of the employee, despite surveillance footage showing him doing so.

Johnson was eventually charged with child abuse, aggravated assault and interference with an arresting officer.

It’s also reported that Johnson told police this wasn’t the first time his 4-year-old gotten a hold of his gun.
