It’s been quite the month for Shakira, who has not only announced her split from her ex-boyfriend — and soccer player — Gerard Piqué but also revealed to fans that her father, William Chadid, was involved in a severe accident. On Saturday, the Chantaje singer took to her official Twitter account to clear up some concerns from fans who had recently spotted her in an ambulance while in Barcelona, prompting Shakira to provide context to the situation.
The mother of two posted a photo of her and her father, who is seen wearing a hospital gown and a nasty-looking bruise on the side of his face, with an accompanying message explaining that her beloved dad had suffered a “bad fall.” She wrote, “Guys, I’m getting a lot of messages of concern that I was seen in an ambulance in Barcelona recently.

“I just wanted to let you know that those photos are from last weekend (the 28th) when my dad unfortunately had a bad fall and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is recovering now.” As William continues recovering from the accident, Shakira urged her fans to continue sending their “best wishes his way.”

Things haven’t been going that well for The Voice on-off coach, who announced her split from Gerard earlier this week. The pair first met back in 2010 while Shakira was working on her smash hit Waka Waka for the South Africa World Cup, and it wasn’t long after that when the pair began seeing one another. However, they didn’t officially go public with their romance until the following year.
During their 11-year relationship, Shakira and Gerard welcomed two children together, Milan, nine, and Sasha, seven, whom they will presumably want to co-parent with joint custody following their decision to call it quits. In a joint statement, the pair stressed they would hope for privacy during this shifting time in both of their lives, writing, “We regret to confirm that we are parting ways.
“For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”

Meanwhile, just last month, a court in Spain had decided to reject Shakira’s appeal to dismiss her tax fraud case, meaning she will have to attend a trial after a judge had ruled there was enough evidence to assert she may have avoided paying her fiscal obligations. Back in December 2018, it was first uncovered that the Colombian reportedly owed a whopping $15.5 million in taxes from money she earned between 2012 and 2014.
It’s believed that because she spent the majority of her time in Spain — despite having residence in the Bahamas — she had committed an offense by not updating her status and instead failed to substantiate her residence for tax purposes in another country.
