Saweetie Speaks On Takeoff’s Tragic Passing: “I Feel Like The World Stopped. It’s Just Really Surreal”

While speaking with Complex to promote her new EP, “The Single Life,” Saweetie talked about the tragic passing of Migos rapper Takeoff.

As we previously reported, the Atlanta rap star sadly died earlier this month in a shooting outside a bowling alley in Houston. He was just 28 years old. Saweetie told the outlet that his sudden death feels “surreal.”

“I feel like the world stopped. He was a wonderful human being, I mean wonderful, like hella dope. My heart, my condolences go to his family. It’s just really surreal. I feel like Hip Hop is in a really eerie state right now.” To note, Saweetie spent a good amount of time with Takeoff, as well as everyone in Migos, while she dated rapper Quavo.

More On Takeoff’s Tragic Death

Takeoff and Quavo was attending a private birthday party at a Houston bowling alley when a verbal dispute broke out. Takeoff was not involved in the argument but was standing nearby as Quavo tried to mediate the situation. Sadly, gunfire broke out, striking Takeoff several times. The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office listed the manner of death as homicide with “penetrating gunshot wounds of head and torso into the arm” stated as the cause of his death. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His funeral was held 10 days after his passing at Atlanta’s State Farm arena. Drake, Gucci Mane, Cardi B, Justin Bieber, Chloe Bailey, the City Girls and more attended the service.

The Icy Girl dropped her new project last week and has since been getting some heat for some of the songs. In one track she seemingly mentioned her past relationship with Quavo. Fans believed she should have waited to release her project… since it was so close to the news about Takeoff. Her move even had podcaster Joe Budden chiming in, claiming it was bad timing.

“It ain’t the time for your freestyle,” said Budden. “Because what I heard, I honestly didn’t really hear nothin’ directed to Quavo. Like, I just keep hearing Lil Baby and I think people keep confusing it with Quavo like they did last time.”

He added: “But, either way, it ain’t the time for confusion. It ain’t the time for none of that after they just lost they brother and nephew. It ain’t time for that. Sorry, Saweetie. Push it back. You been quiet. No need to come shake the table now.” Here’s what else he had to say:
