Roddy Ricch Credits Michael Jackson As Inspo For Massive Hit ‘The Box’

Compton rapper Roddy Ricch has made it hard to turn on the radio, open a social app or walk into a store without hearing his massive hit “The Box,” for which he’s now crediting Michael Jackson as inspiration.

The 30-Roc-produced track is Roddy’s highest-charting song worldwide, running a marathon on Billboard‘s Hot 100 at No. 1 and Rolling Stone‘s Top 100. He also found success in Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and more.

While appearing on HBO’s ‘The Shop: Uninterrupted,’ Roddy tells a room full of athletes and comedian Tiffany Haddish, how the infamous sound effect, “ee err” came about. He says, “I seen Michael Jackson do it. That’s what made me want to do it. ‘Cause he was in the studio one time and he was talking about some song that he made but he started beatboxing and he said he put that in the beat.”

Furthermore, Roddy’s hit track is currently in its 9th week of charting at the top spot; which is blocking Drake and Future‘s “Life Is Good.”
