Pub Installs Electric Fence At Bar To Ensure Social Distancing

A UK pub took social distancing measures to the extreme by installing an electric fence by the bar area. Apparently employees of Star Inn in Cornwall were sick of customers failing to abide by social distancing rules, so they took it one step further.

“It’s there for social-distancing,” Star Inn landlord Johnny McFadden told CornwallLive. “Before the fence, people were not following social-distancing and were doing as they pleased, but now people take heed to the guidance around social distancing.”

McFadden added that the fence is normally shut off, but “It can be turned on.”

A group of customers claimed that they were electrocuted by the fence on Saturday night, after getting a little to drunk, but we can’t clarify the validity.

The electric fence sent social media into a frenzy over the weekend after people shared pictures online. As cases of the Coronavirus increase, officials are warning that bars are hotspots due to the enclosed packed space. California and Las Vegas recently closed bars again after reopening.

“We don’t know who might spread it,” said Dean Blumberg, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at UC Davis Children’s Hospital. “We do know social distancing reduces the risk of transmitting the virus by 90 percent.”
