Prince Jackson is opening up about his father Michael Jackson‘s vitiligo skin disorder. Prince says Michael “had a lot of insecurity” about his appearance while dealing with the skin condition.

The King of Pop’s 26-year-old son recently sat down with Mike Tyson for a new episode of his ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson‘ podcast. In the show, Prince spoke with the famous boxer about his father and his dad’s struggle dealing with his vitiligo skin disorder, which causes loss of pigmentation.
Introducing the topic, Tyson said, “Everybody thought he was changing his skin because he wanted to be white, he was changing it because he wanted to ‘glow.'”

Responding, Prince said, “When I was younger, he was always explaining to me, speaking about that. I think it was even in the autopsy report. I think the cause of it is up for speculation but it’s either vitiligo or some form of lupus that contributed to the vitiligo.”
Prince went on to explain how his father also opened up to him about his battle with the skin disorder and how it had an effect on his self-esteem.
Prince said, “He had a lot of insecurity around, kind of looking blotchy in his appearance. So he wanted to see if he could smooth out his appearance, to help with his security on his physical appearance. I think the ‘glowing’ may have probably also had something to do with it ‘cause he was visionary in the way he thought, right?”

Now, prior to Prince’s recent comments about his father’s skin disorder, Michael Jackson previously spoke about his condition back in 1993. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, he denied all the allegations accusing him of bleaching his chocolate brown skin.
He told Oprah, “I am a Black American, I’m proud to be Black American, I am proud of my race, I am proud of who I am. I have a lot of pride in who I am and dignity. I have a skin disorder. It destroys the pigmentation of the skin. It’s something that I cannot help, okay? But when people make up stories that I don’t wanna be who I am, it hurts me.”
He continued to explain that he first had noticed a change to his pigmentation around the releases of ‘Off The Wall‘ or ‘Thriller.’ He said that the condition has also affected some of his family members on his father Joe Jackson’s side.
