Prince Harry Reveals He And Meghan Markle “Stepped Back” From The Royal Family After The “Toxic” Media “Destroyed” Their Mental Health
Last year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped away as working members of the Royal Family. The Queen gave the couple a 12 month review period, allowing them time to try out their new lives but return to their old jobs if they wanted.
However, last Friday, Buckingham Palace announced in a statement that the couple will not return to life as working royals. In a surprise new interview with James Corden for The Late Late Show, Prince Harry opens up about their big decision to step back after their mental health was “destroyed” by “toxic” media attention.

“It was never walking away from the Royal Family,” he said. “It was stepping back rather than stepping down. It was a really difficult environment,” he went on. “We all know what the British press can be like, and it was destroying my mental health. I was like, ‘This is toxic.’ So I did what any husband and father would do — I was like, ‘I need to get my family out of here.'”
Aside from that, the former royal couple seemed to be doing pretty well in California. During the show, the host gave Harry a little tour of L.A. and went to the home featured in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and Corden told the royal couple, who are currently expecting their second child, that they should consider moving into the famous home.
Since Markle was not able to join them in person, Corden commandeered Harry’s phone so they could call her. From there she revealed the cute nickname she gave her husband Harry. “Haz, how’s your tour of L.A. going?” the duchess asked her husband. “Haz? I didn’t know we were calling you Haz now,” Corden said, to which the prince deadpanned back, “No, well, you’re not my wife, so…”
