Socialites, let’s take a moment to send love, deep prayers and our condolences to the Braxton family as they mourn the loss of Von Scales. The husband of singer, entrepreneur and reality star Trina Braxton has passed away at 58.

Trina’s publicist, David Robinson, confirmed the passing in a statement to BOSSIP, calling Scales the “beloved husband” of the star. The family thanked everybody for their thoughts and prayers but asked for privacy while they work through the loss. Details about what led to his death have not been made public.
The news hit fans of Braxton Family Values hard, especially since this family has already had to say too many goodbyes in too few years. Scales stepped into Trina’s life during one of her roughest chapters. Her ex-husband, Gabe Solis, died of cancer in 2018 at 43. Scales stayed by her side while she grieved, and Trina never forgot it. She said in 2019 that he “stood right by me” through that difficult time.
The love story moved fast after that. Scales, a St. Louis native, proposed during a birthday celebration for Trina’s baby sister, Tamar, in Napa Valley. The couple later married in a St. Louis ceremony surrounded by their closest people, and the Braxton family posed for a group photo at the reception. The wedding was set to be featured on WE tv in 2020.
Outside the cameras, Scales was an entrepreneur. He was previously married to Amy Fitzmaurice, and the two share three sons: Brendan, Cameron and Evan. Those young men are grieving a father, and Trina’s own sons are grieving a stepfather too.
The timing is painful. Trina lost her sister Traci Braxton in 2022, and now she’s facing the death of her husband. Fans have been flooding social media with love for Trina and the whole Braxton family, and the message is the same everywhere: give her space and keep her lifted in prayer.
