Syphillis is known as a bacterial infection that has four stages: primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary. Most of the stages have similar or different symptoms and it is caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum. Some of the symptoms are a full body rash, hair loss, muscle aches, and a sore throat. Additionally, syphillis can be asymptomatic and individuals can have it for years without any symptoms. Pregnant women can also transmit the disease to their unborn babies and Pennsylvania had the highest number of babies born with the disease in 32 years.
