Today, the IMPD has finally identified the officers involved in the deadly shooting. The officer who shot and killed Reed was identified as Dejoure Mercer, who has been with the department for four years.  IMPD Officer Steven Scott, who is a 15-year veteran with the department, was identified as the officer who said the ‘closed casket’ remarks.

According to files Mercer has had no previous complaints during his time as a police officer.

“As Chief of Police, my responsibility is to protect the safety of all in our city, including our IMPD officers. With that in mind, I am following up on my commitment to be transparent with the community we serve,” Chief Randal Taylor in a statement.

The full disclosure will be made available to the public when it is approved.
