Officer Brett Hankison To Be Fired For Involvement In Breonna Taylor Shooting
On Friday, Mayor Greg Fischer announced that Louisville Metro Police is initiating termination of Officer Brett Hankison — one of three officers who fired off their weapons on March 13 at Breonna Taylor’s apartment, killing her.

In a letter obtained by news outlets, the department’s interim chief, Robert Schroeder accused Hankison of “blindly” firing 10 rounds into Taylor’s apartment, creating a substantial danger of death and serious injury. He explained:
“I find your conduct a shock to the conscience,” Schroeder wrote in a Friday letter to Hankison laying out the charges against him. “I am alarmed and stunned you used deadly force in this fashion,” USA Today quotes. He went on to say,
“The result of your action seriously impedes the Department’s goal of providing the citizens of our city with the most professional law enforcement agency possible. I cannot tolerate this type of conduct by any member of the Louisville Metro Police Department,” he added. “Your conduct demands your termination.”
As we previously reported, Breonna Taylor, was a 26-year-old emergency medical technician, who was fatally shot by Louisville Metro Police Department officers on March 13, 2020. Three LMPD officers executing a no-knock search warrant entered her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky. Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove — had been placed on administrative reassignment but were still part of the force, until Hankison’s Friday firing.
The move comes shortly after KY Attorney General Daniel Cameron addressed the investigation into Taylor’s death, saying his team was working nonstop but had no new updates to report yet in terms of possible charges for the officers.
