Social Media Honors Breonna Taylor On What Would Have Been Her 27th Birthday
Breonna Taylor would have turned 27-years-old today but instead her life was cut short. As we previously reported, on March 13, Louisville police officers executing a no-knock warrant in the middle of the night raided her apartment as part of a “narcotics investigation.” Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired a shot thinking an intruder was breaking in. The bullet reportedly struck Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly in the femoral artery. Officers then fired off multiple shots, hitting Taylor eight times. Taylor died on the scene. No drugs were found in her apartment. Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, has maintained he thought he was shooting at intruders, not police, and his charges have been dismissed.

On May 21, over two months after Taylor was killed, the FBI announced they had opened an investigation into her death. The officers who killed Taylor have merely been placed on administrative reassignment. Taylor has not received justice yet and people around the world are determined to get it for Taylor, who was an aspiring nurse, and for her family.
As part of the #BirthdayForBreonna campaign, many people including a number of celebrities such as Demi Lovato, Megan Thee Stallion, Solange Knowles more, are asking people to apply pressure on Louisville authorities to charge Taylor’s killers and recognize the use of the “no-knock warrant” as a civil rights violation. Other social media users have been spending the morning sharing sweet posts about the beloved young woman, sending prayers to her family, and also sharing helpful resources with each other to get justice for Taylor.
Even Bernice Albertine King, the youngest child of civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr., shared a poster with information on how people could help. Take a look below:
