This Friday, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she will run for reelection in the US House next November.

The 83-year-old Democratic leader announced her plans in a tweet saying, “Now more than ever our City needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery. Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote. -Nancy.”

Pelosi’s decision comes as no surprise to those who have closely followed her remarkable career. With an unwavering commitment to public service and a knack for effective leadership, she has consistently championed the needs and aspirations of her constituents, leaving an indelible mark on American politics.

Pelosi, who also served twice as House speaker from 2007-2011, was the first woman to hold the job, and reclaimed her position in 2019. However, she stepped down as speaker and Democratic leader at the top of the year when Republicans took control of the chamber. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries has since taken her place.

Throughout her tenure, Pelosi has been a driving force behind numerous landmark legislative achievements. She has spearheaded the passage of critical bills that have shaped the nation’s trajectory. From the Affordable Care Act to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Pelosi has demonstrated her ability to navigate complex political landscapes and deliver tangible results for the American people.

Beyond her legislative accomplishments, Pelosi has also been an inspiration to women across the country. Breaking barriers and shattering glass ceilings, she has shown that gender should never be a hindrance to achieving one’s goals. Her success serves as a beacon of hope, encouraging women from all walks of life to pursue their passions and make a difference in their communities.

The news of her re-election plans comes less than a year after an armed intruder who had intentions to take bee hostage, broke into the family’s San Francisco home and attacked her husband, Paul Pelosi. Thankfully she was not harmed.

Her announcement also ends months of speculation, with some believing this was her year to retire. However, she previously admitted that it has been a thought she’s had. She said, “I mean for 36 years, you always have to measure what the value is of your contribution in something like this, and I’d never thought I’d stay as long as I did,” Pelosi said.

Despite that, it looks like Pelosi is planning to stay in the politics game for a good minute!
