Mississippi Mayor Under Fire Over Comments About George Floyd, ‘If You Can Talk, You Can Breathe’

Mayor Hal Marx, of Petal, Mississippi, is under fire over his outrageous comments about George Floyd; the 46-year-old black man who died in Minneapolis police custody, after a white officer kneeled on his neck for about eight minutes.

While taking to social media, Marx weighed in on the viral video and spoke out in support of the white officers involved, who’ve since been fired. On Tuesday (May 26), Marx shared, “Why in the world would anyone choose to become a police officer in our society today?” On Facebook, he wrote, “If you can talk you can breathe. Think about that before rushing to judgement. #thinblueline.”

Also, responding to a Twitter user, he says, If you are talking about the incident in MN, I didn’t see anything unreasonable. If you can say you can’t breath, you’re breathing. Most likely that man died of overdose or heart attack. Video doesn’t show his resistance that got him in that position. Police being crucified.

Following his remarks, Marx was quickly criticized. Subsequently, he defend his comments, saying, “The tolerant progressives can’t tolerate a simple statement of fact.”
