Miley Cyrus and her father Billy Ray are not on speaking terms ever since the announcement that her parents were calling it quits in April. As previously reported, Tish Cyrus filed for divorce from the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer, citing “irreconcilable differences,” but according to The Sun, Miley is no longer in contact with her dad over something he allegedly did that seemingly caused the relationship with Tish to fall apart, hence why she filed the legal paperwork.
While this isn’t the first time Billy and Tish were looking to call it quits, it appears the pair aren’t looking to reconcile over whatever transpired in the lead-up to the 55-year-old deciding she wants a divorce. “Miley is all about peace but she didn’t agree with some things that her father has done. It has really escalated and they are not on good terms,” a source told the British publication.

“There were words exchanged over what happened towards the end of Billy and Tish’s marriage, and since then, but they clearly see things very differently.” Furthermore, Miley and her dad have both unfollowed each other on Instagram, which further fuels the idea that the “Party Up The Street” hitmaker, who is still following Tish, is clearly taking her mother’s side.
“Neither of them is particularly eager to make amends right now without an apology. The rest of the family are hoping it will blow over soon and they will be able to make up, but Billy and Miley are both upset,” the insider continued, noting that their family hopes the pair will eventually work out their differences.
What’s more, despite Billy deciding to unfollow Miley on Instagram, he is still following her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, which some have perceived as a shady move from the “Old Town Road” hitmaker, considering Miley and Liam haven’t been together since their divorce in 2020.
Miley and Billy have always shared a close relationship over the years. In her early teenage years, when she landed the part of “Hannah Montana” on Disney Channel, Billy played her dad in the popular teen sitcom before going on to help manage his daughter’s career — a position her mother has since taken over.

But despite Disney helping propel Miley to become one of the biggest stars in the world, in a 2011 interview, Billy expressed how the show had ruined his family in more ways than one. “It destroyed my family. I’ll tell you right now, the damn show destroyed my family,” he revealed.
“I’d take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just everybody to be OK, safe and sound and happy and normal would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah!”
