Jimmy Hoffmeyer is suing for $1 million from Mount Pleasant Public Schools, he is stating the school system violated his biracial daughter’s constitutional rights. Two staffers at Ganiard Elementary School have been listed in the lawsuit, in which the father makes racial discrimination accusations.
The school did not immediately respond to lawsuit, but later they did release a statement saying, there is no evidence Jurnee’s hair being cut “was motivated by racial bias.”
Jurnee’s hair was cut twice in March, the first occasion was by a female student on the school bus without her permission, according to the lawsuit. Her dad took her to a beauty salon to get it fixed but two days later, the girl came home with nearly all of her curly hair cut off.
The father is stating the school librarian is the one that cut his daughters hair without permission. She is a white woman and the father says this has everything to do with race.

“Rather than declining this request or consulting with the student’s parents or school administrators, the library employee — who is also a cosmetologist — agreed to even out the student’s hair to make her feel better,” the superintendent shared in a statement.
