According to Yahoo! News, the announcement was made by Mayor Dan Gelber stating that an 8 p.m. curfew will be enforced in South Beach. He also noted that shore-bound traffic will also be closed off and the procedures will last for about 72 hours. Amid the incoming Spring Break madness, Florida currently has several hot spots with a high number of COVID-19 cases and surpassed 2 million cases so far.

Several businesses are also shutting down their shoreline services to prevent overcrowding due to the number of fights that have broken out on the strip. On Thursday, police officers had to break up a fight that occurred at the Katina Restaurant on Ocean Drive and used pepper bells to de-escalate the scene.
