Poncho de Nigris, a popular Mexican nfluencer, entrepreneur, and television presenter, sparked some controversy after he offered to sell the embryos that he and his wife saved in case they wanted more children, as reported by Oddity Central. The ‘Big Brother Mexico’ star said that the embryos have a great quality of life and their good deed would help ‘improve the human race.’

“You see that I have beautiful children. They are not cheap, they are years to improve the human race and it would not be right for us to give them away.”

De Nigris believes many people would be willing to take his embryos because of his ‘great genes’ since he and his wife, Marcela, have four beautiful children. However, couples interested in his offer would have to pay $2 million each for the two embryos.

He noted that he and Marcela are not interested in having anymore children so they are willing to meet with prospective couples to discuss business. De Nigris stated the embryos can remain frozen and can be used as a life insurance policy for his family, in the case of his death.

“Marcela and I are not supposed to have any more children. I have not had surgery, if I have surgery it will be until I am 50 years old; I will try to hold on. My wife wants me to have surgery, but we have two frozen embryos there. Yes, but as I told you, perhaps at some point we could use those embryos. For those who cannot have children, mine could serve them,  he told Telemundo.

De Nigris noted that this is a business aside from wanting to improve the human race.

“There must be many interested people, there are the molds, my children. I would sell them each embryo for no less than 2 million dollars… Now, since my children turn out well, now they all want it.”

The sale of embryos is a controversial topic with ethical and moral implications that have sparked debates and discussions for years. Embryo sale is the procedure of selling embryos developed through in vitro fertilization (IVF) but will not be used by the parents who created them.

People opt to sell their embryos for a variety of reasons. One reason could be that they have finished their family through IVF and have embryos left over. Instead of abandoning the embryos, they might give or sell them to another couple battling with infertility and wanting to have a family. People may also sell their embryos in order to make money. Selling embryos for research purposes or donating them to fertility clinics for use in IVF treatments is permitted in several countries.
