‘Mean Girls’ Stars Reportedly Agreed To A Sequel But Cast May Pass On The Project After Being Made A ‘Disrespectful’ Offer

Talks concerning a sequel to 2004’s “Mean Girls” have reportedly been halted after the cast of the teen comedy flick was reportedly made a “disrespectful” offer by Paramount who had initially shown interest in green-lighting the project. According to PAPER Magazine, which cites PageSix’s sources, all of the main cast members, including Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Rachel McAdams, had agreed to return for a second film. But things have taken a turn for the worse because the actresses were made an offer that’s said to be far below what they expected.

While most of the cast had yet to land a breakthrough role that cemented their positions as leading actresses in Hollywood when “Mean Girls” was released, Lohan, Adams, and Seyfried, in particular, went on to establish successful acting careers in numerous blockbuster movies. For 2006’s “Just My Luck,” Lohan earned a cool $7.5 million followed by $8 million when she went on to star in “Georgia Rule” the following year.

Adams, too, has built up some impressive credentials after landing lead roles in films such as “Doctor Strange,” “The Notebook,” and “About Time.” Needless to say, the cast is reportedly not happy with what Paramount is willing to offer them for a sequel that’s almost guaranteed to be a success. “Paramount Pictures doesn’t want to pay the girls what they are worth,” a source close to the production told the aforementioned news outlet. “All four girls were willing to come back, but Paramount has not been respectful of what they are worth. As of now, the negotiations are stalled.”

From what one sider claimed, McAdams was expected to earn the highest salary out of all the cast members, but the deal was never signed off — presumably because the other stars from the original flick didn’t agree with the difference in earnings.

It should also be noted that while McAdams may have had a bigger career than her fellow co-stars, “Mean Girls” was still centered around Lohan’s character, Cady Heron.

The report further claimed that Tina Fey, who wrote and starred in the film, would be looking at one of the biggest paydays after locking in a seven-figure deal. She’d be expected to star, write, and produce the follow-up if things can still be worked out with the main cast.
