“He had broken the stay-home rule, he’s among very few people here who are not cooperating with the lockdown to stop the virus,” mayor Alice Kayitesi said to the BBC.

The unidentified man was killed by the crocodile while attempting to fish on Wednesday in the Nyabarongo River.

The government authorities in Rwanda imposed a total lockdown on Sunday as cases of Covid-19 continued to get bigger, with around 40 cases, which marks the highest in the African region.

The shutdown has impacted many markets and severely affected the lives of low-income earners, despite the government announcing that it would aid those who were struggling.

“The cooperation of Rwandans and residents is greatly appreciated, as are the efforts of those working hard in the health sector,” Rwanda’s health authorities said in a statement Tuesday.
