A man revealed on Reddi that he pretended to be gay to avoid an arranged marriage set up by his parents. But his parents had other plans once learning the fake news.

ArrMarriageAvoidance, a Reddit user, described himself as a 26-year-old Indian American male and posted the situation in the “Today, Dear Reddit. I F*cked Up” subreddit. He claimed his parents pressured him to marry because he was getting older and needed to settle down so they could have grandchildren. However, he claimed to be non-confrontational and lied about being gay, hoping they would no longer press him to marry. After making the phony confession, his parents left him alone until they began compiling a list of men who would be ideal for him. He also made it clear at the beginning of the post that he’s slightly bi as he’s attracted to women and femboys.
“That is until last weekend. I visited them as usual and was greeted by my mom, who was more excited than usual. She sat me down and pulled out a binder with a bunch of pictures of guys. Apparently, my parents had spent the last month or so looking for any and all gay Hindu Indian men who I could potentially marry. So now I guess I’m dealing with the exact same shit, but instead of being greeted with pictures of cute Indian girls, I get to see pictures of gay Indian dudes instead. F*ck my life lol”

He now says he has to come up with an idea to either find a girlfriend or deal with marrying another man to appease his parents. Other users chimed in and offered advice about how he should deal with the situation. One person wrote, “If they can flip the script to producing a whole bunch of guys that might suit their son, I’m pretty sure they’ll be ok with him taking a little time to pic the girl that suits him. I get the feeling it’s been “here’s 50 girls, which do you like?” “none of them!!” so they go away and find another 50. OP needs to talk to them honestly, and see where that takes him.”
“They spent a whole ass month doing their research, OP’s parents went from Tinder to Grindr real quick,” another user wrote. Some were surprised at the parents progressive decision and commended them for doing anything to make their son happy.
“If they are accepting of you being gay, I’m sure you can convince them to take it chill when you have a girlfriend.”
The post was first introduced by @kfcharmian on Twitter and other users had a similar reaction to his mixed-up situation.
