Tapas Sandilya’s wife, Indrani, died after battling the coronavirus in 2021 and asked him to make a silicon model of herself in case she died before him. Sandilya stated that his wife requested the model be created so that he would not feel lonely at home. After seeing a few statues at a local museum, Indrani got the idea, and the model took about six months to complete. Sandilya stated that the model weighs approximately 66 pounds and that he dressed her in his wife’s favorite clothing. The model sits in Indrani’s favorite spot on the couch.

The couple’s family was initially opposed to the idea, but Sandilya argued that having the model made in her image was no different than having images of deceased loved ones in their homes. The model’s sculptor, Subimal Das, said it was tricky to make an exact model of Indrani since he never met her and couldn’t make any casts of her body and face.

Although it took days to make a clay model of her body, they were able to make a 3D image of her face to create one of her facial expressions.

‘I had to work with Subimalfor the clay-molding phase as nothing less than Indrani’s actual facial expression would do for me. I, after all, lived with her for 39 years. My wife would always get her clothes done by a [local tailor] and he knew the exact measurements. Everything had to be a perfect fit.’

The 65-year-old husband said he was in isolation when his wife was battling the coronavirus at a nearby hospital but the statue makes him feel more comfortable that she’s always with him.

According to The Sun, this is not the first time a man has had a silicone model of their late spouse created. Shrinivas Gupta had a model made of his wife Madhavi after she was killed in a car accident in 2020. Friends of the couple said the model appeared too realistic and eerie, leading them to believe Madhavi was still alive.
