With a Pop career that has spanned almost four decades, it’s understandable that Madonna feels pressure in making sure her upcoming biopic is executed to near perfection. The “Come Together” singer will direct and co-write her upcoming film alongside award-winning writer Erin Wilson, who is perhaps best known for her work on 2016’s  “The Girl on the Train.”

Amy Pascal, producer of the Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland, has also signed on to help bring Madonna’s story to life, but from what the 63-year-old recently told Variety in an interview, it seems as if penning the script for the forthcoming motion picture hasn’t been all that easy.

“I have a very long script that is really hard for me to make shorter,” Madonna told the publication. “I’ve been whittling away at it, but it’s like hacking off my limbs. I’ve had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film.” The Queen of Pop further stressed how she had to put her “foot in the door” after a string of “misogynistic men” were trying to tell her story — a move which Madonna was vehemently against.

Her biopic was first announced back in 2020, with Universal Pictures having yet to announce a release date for the highly-anticipated film which will cover the ups and downs of Madonna’s rise to superstardom along with the personal struggles she dealt with while reigning the charts with hits such as “Like A Virgin,” “Into the Groove,” and “Vogue.”

When she first made the announcement to her fans in September of that year, she explained why this was undoubtedly going to be a rollercoaster of a ride, considering how much she has experienced throughout her four-decade-long music career.

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer [and] a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” she said in a statement.

“The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

NME further reported how Madonna described the biopic as being a film about the “happy, sad, mad, crazy, good, bad and ugly” adventure her career has taken her on — on top of the struggle she faced as an artist trying to survive in a man’s world.

Last month, it was revealed that Julia Garner had been offered the role to play Madonna, according to Variety, though it’s unclear whether the actress has formally accepted the part as of yet since her IMDb page doesn’t show the biopic being part of her line-up of upcoming movies.
