Louisiana Police Use “Purge” Siren To Signify Curfew In City
Police in Crowley, Louisiana used some unorthodox measures to get the residents of Acadia Parish to stay inside during Coronavirus quarantine.
In a video shared by KATC, Crowley Police rode around town blasting the eerie alarm sound from the movie franchise “The Purge”. The alarm is reported to have been implemented to notify residents that from 9 pm to 6 am they cannot leave the house. As you know, the film is based on an annual holiday that allows all crimes, including murder to be legal during a 12-hour period.

“If you are out between the 9:00 pm to 6:00 am you will be stopped and advised to go home,” a Facebook post from the department wrote. The police department will also be enforcing fines for those who do not follow the curfew.
“Acadia Parish received the worse rating for the rapid spread of the virus. It has been put into place in order try and slow the spread. There is nothing anyone needs to be on the roads besides emergency situations. If you don’t want to comply with the orders of the Sheriff and the Chiefs, you will dealt with accordingly,” the police department added.
Apparently, the department received mixed reactions following the use of the siren and, they claim that they did not know that it was associated with the horror movie.
The Acadia Parish Sheriff, K.P. Gibson, released a statement after the site was used,
“Last night a ”Purge Siren” was utilized by the Crowley Police Department as part of their starting curfew. We have received numerous complaints with the belief that our agency was involved in this process. We were not involved in the use of the “Purge Siren” and will not utilize any type of siren for this purpose. Calls regarding this matter should be directed to the Crowley Police / Chief Broussard and not the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.”
