Fox News host Laura Ingraham is slamming a resurfaced clip of actress Anne Hathaway, who called abortion “another word for mercy.”
On Tuesday (September 1), Ingraham reacted to the resurfacing clip and said, “This is truly sick.” Now, Hathaway’s comments are from her November 2022 appearance on ABC’s ‘The View.’ Hathaway comments arrived after co-host Joy Behar asked her about her abortion-themed post celebrating the 16th anniversary of her film, ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’
Hathaway shared the post shortly after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Hathaway vowed to “fight” for abortion rights. On ‘The View,’ Hathaway said:
“We’re in the fight every day. We’re in the fight every minute. And you mentioned ‘The Devil Wears Prada‘ turning sweet 16. Some 16-year-old’s life has been irrevocably changed because of the overturning of Roe v. Wade.”

While connecting her role of “Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs” to the loss of abortion rights, Hathaway said:
“I played a young woman who was starting out her career. And when you are a young woman starting out your career, your reproductive destiny matters a great deal. And I just—it had just happened and I just—I think about it all the time. I think we all think about it all the time. And what the implications are. And what it means to live in a country that puts us in this position…again.”
Hathaway said if she would have played the role of “Andy” in 2022, she “couldn’t take that for granted.” She added:
“I couldn’t take that freedom for granted, the freedom of choice. And by the way, this is not a moral conversation about abortion, this is a practical conversation about women’s rights, and by the way human rights, because women’s rights are human rights. And the freedom that we all need to be able to choose and build and lives, and have access to excellent healthcare.”
After an applause from the hosts and the audience, Hathaway continued:
“Can I just say one other thing, without going into too many details. My own personal experience with abortion — I don’t think we talk about this enough — abortion can be another word for mercy. We don’t know. We don’t know. It’s not a world in which every—we know that no two pregnancies are alike, and it follows that no two lives are alike, it follows that no two conceptions are alike. So, how can we have a law, how can we have a point of view on this that says we must treat everything the same? And where I came at it from is when you allow for choice, you allow for flexibility, which is what we need in order to be human. I just wanted to include that.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin added, “Especially for health. Hathaway agreed and continued, “Especially for that. It’s not set in stone. Just because you get pregnant doesn’t mean get to keep that baby.” Hostin added, “It’s a health decision.” Hathaway shared, “It can be.” Co-host Whoopi Goldberg ultimately declared, “It’s a personal decision.”
