It’s been a decade since we last saw Beyoncé grace the carpet of the Met Gala. And on May 4, Bey will make an appearance at the 2026 event — not as a guest, but as co-chair. She will co-host with Anna Wintour, Venus Williams, and Nicole Kidman. This year’s exhibition is titled, “Costume Art,” the dress code is “Fashion Is Art.”

Bey last attended the Met back in May 2016 when she wore Givenchy Haute Couture, under the theme of “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” A year before that, she hit the carpet for the Costume Institute Benefit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City with husband JAY-Z. The 2015 Met Gala theme was “China: Through The Looking Glass.”
In 2014, Bey and Hov attended the Met Gala for the theme, “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.” In 2013, Bey hit the Met carpet for the theme, “PUNK: Chaos to Couture.” Before that, in 2012, she attended the Met Gala carpet with the theme, “Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations.”
In 2011, Bey and Hov hit the Met Gala carpet with the theme, “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.” Before 2011’s Met, Bey hadn’t attended since 2008. During that year, she hit the carpet with the theme, “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy.”
Beyoncé Serving As Co-Chair Of 2026 Met Gala
For the 2026 Met Gala, Beyoncé is returning to New York City for fashion’s biggest night as co-chair for The Costume Institute’s biggest event. The role of co-chair mostly influences the evening’s theme, the guest selections, the dinner, and the performances.
The co-host also helps boost fundraising power — something that Bey is more than capable of as she’s transformed fundraising with her BeyGOOD public charity foundation.
Furthermore, the powerful role of-chair dates back to 1973. After Anna Wintour — who served as editor-in-chief of American Vogue — assumed Met Gala chairmanship in 1995, the co-chair position has been taken on by Donatella Versace, Amal Clooney, and Rihanna in 2018; Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Regina King in 2022; and Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, and Lewis Hamilton in 2025.
