Ahead of Pixar and Disney’s new Lightyear movie, which sees one of our favorite childhood characters from Toy Story, Buzz Lightyear embark on his own adventure, we got to speak to one of the stars, Keke Palmer.
Palmer who has been a star in the film and television industry since she was a young child, takes on her role as Izzy Hawthornw by storm and gives us all the magical feels and loveable character traits as we remember as a child.
Keke reflected on Pixar’s beautiful inclusion of diversity and ability to “normalize what’s always been there.” Lightyear features a same-sex relationship, and kiss is between Uzo Aduba’s Alisha Hawthorne and her wife, who welcome a son in the film. Keke voices the daughter of the son. The film gives everyone a voice and brings unity to our diverse world.
We also touch on the importance of mental health in the industry, and how time to yourself is important as well as career goals, and what Keke had learned from Izzy and Buzz!
“Lightyear follows the legendary space ranger (Chris Evans) on an intergalactic adventure alongside ambitious recruits, Izzy (Keke Palmer), Mo (Take Waititi) and Darby (Dale Soules), and his robot companion Sox (Peter Sohn). As this motley crew embarks on their toughest mission yet, they must learn to work as a team to escape the evil Zurg(James Brolin) and his dutiful robot army, who are never far behind.”
